Laboratory Operations

Committee work is done through permanent volunteer committees made up of of NCSLI Members that meet on a quarterly basis. One of the best ways to become involved with NCSLI is to serve on one of our many committees. Committee members work together to advance projects, study and deliberate current metrology issues.

Steve Doty

Steve began his work in Navy calibration laboratories, not realizing a career in metrology awaited him. Upon completing his enlistment, he joined the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as a staff member of the Pressure and Vacuum Group. In time, Steve became responsible for piston gage calibration, helium leak calibration and on-site low gas flow proficiency testing. While in the Pressure and Vacuum Group, Steve developed a quality manual for the Pressure Group, based on then ISO Guide 25. Steve had an opportunity to become a staff member of NIST’s National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) in October 1997, where he was responsible for the domestic and international proficiency testing program, as well as other aspects of laboratory accreditation until his departure, to return once again to the Navy. Steve accepted a position at the NAVAL Surface Warfare Center Corona Division as the manager of the Joint Naval Audit Certification Program.
