Calling all Metrologists!

Very soon, retiring Metrology professionals, primarily from the Baby Boomer generation, will generate a workforce shortage. Who will replace this technical workforce? How will we rise above this soon to be shortage? We must tap into the “Generation Y” or “Millennial” generations, currently emerging into the workforce, as well as the newest generation, currently in primary school. The only way to accomplish this goal is to target the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education Pipeline. By acting now, we can reduce and minimize the potential impact to national and international measurement systems.

What is a Metrology Ambassador?

A Metrology Ambassador is a measurement scientist who volunteers in their community to educate students, parents, educators, and others about basic measurement science principles and about career opportunities in Metrology. An Ambassador can accomplish this by mentoring students, conducting hands-on interactive activities in the classroom, hosting laboratory tours, participating in career fairs and science nights, and inviting students to their NCSLI section meetings to learn more about measurement science! Focus on K to 12 grades, higher education, or both!

How do I become a Metrology Ambassador?

The Metrology Outreach Program provides measurement experiences and a variety of resources that can be used by volunteers to generate interest and awareness the next generation of measurement scientists. These useful tools can be used by anyone when conducting outreach to teachers and students. Check out the resources and links to find out what you can do and how you can get started.
