The ASC Scope: To develop and maintain standards for the operation and design of calibration laboratories, requirements for the control and use of measuring and test equipment, and requirements or guides for metrological functions associated with calibration laboratories and/or measuring and test equipment. These standards may be new development projects or may be based upon current ISO/IEC standards or guides, other international standards, recommended practices developed by the NCSLI or other industry good practices.
Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) Z540 NCSLI has been serving as the administrative sponsor and secretariat for the Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) Z540 since its accreditation as an ANSI Accredited Standards Committee since February 1994. The standards are developed and maintained using the Procedures for an Accredited Standards Committee. The NCSLI is an organization with goals to promote cooperative action on common problem of management and operations of measurement standards and calibration laboratories. Information exchange is accomplished through a variety of meetings, publications, committee activities and discussions. Identification of current practices, problems, and policies, as well as cooperative efforts and research needs all advance the goals of NCSLI.

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) coordinates, facilitates, and promotes the development of voluntary consensus standards that are relied upon by industry, government agencies, and consumers across the United States and around the world. ANSI fosters the U.S. standardization system by accrediting the procedures of standard-setting organizations and subsequently approving individual documents as American National Standards (ANS). Nearly 220 ANSI-Accredited Standards Developers are now engaged in the creation and maintenance of voluntary consensus standards that are being used in virtually every industry sector. These standards developers - and the experts that populate them - work cooperatively to enhance the U.S. quality of life and improve the competitiveness of businesses operating in the global marketplace.
